PROJECT 5: THE MASK (SPECULATIVE)

We are asked to make a 'Feeling Mask'. It must be the interpretation of a person's face recorded in reaction when the person entering a room or space.
I would like a person to enter a living happy space so I decided to make a smiley face.
I started designing the mask...
I, personally, feel that Sichuan Opera masks do not have any smiles on them. They look fierce and unhappy. I hope, by entering a living happy space could make them smile.
This is the reason I chose to combine smiles of clown with Sichuan Opera mask.

After preparing the materials and tools needed, we started to make the mould of my face. I got helps from my friends in doing the mould.

Firstly, cling wrap is placed on my face. Then, wet toilet paper is placed to cover my face.
Paper strips are then pasted horizontally on the toilet paper on my face by using starch mixture.

When the mould is dried, the mould is removed from my face.

The making of mask:
- Place the the paper strips vertically and horizontally at each layer of the mould.
- Toilet paper is also placed on the mould.
- Dry the mould.

Draw and Color The Mask....

PROJECT 4A: SCULPTURE (MULTIVIEW)

The sculpture I created is very obvious. It is a clock tower, named Smiley Clock Tower.
To me, a sculpture should be the landmark of a place and have the ability to inspire people. Clock tower can always be the landmark of town, for example Big Ben at the Palace of Westminster in London. I think that smiling is a great way to make oneself stand out and also help one's body to function better. Smile can improve health, stress level and attractiveness. Smiling is also a way to live longer.

Planning Stage:

Get Started: Draw and Cut the Mounting Board

Old newspaper is used to support the mounting board. So that the base of my clock tower is strong enough to support the upper part of the mounting board.
